Clean Machine PDF Print

While Fuchs is well known for building some of the finest channel switching amps in the world, we realized not everyone is a channel switching player. Many players told us they prefer to define their tones through pedals. Based on feedback from many players, we took the clean channel from our Tripledrive Supreme, and enhanced it with greater tonal flexibility. We followed it with an all tube effects loop, a stellar four knob reverb section, and an entirely revamped power section. The result is The Clean Machine. An amp as home with a pedalboard as it is with a big fat archtop jazz guitar.

The Clean Machine Features

The Clean Machine features the Tripledrive ‘A’ channel which has been lauded worldwide as one of the sweetest, most blackface sounding amp voices available today. Quiet, dynamic, sweet yet detailed. MusicPlayer.com called it clean, focused and transparent. Guitar Player magazine called it “a world class tone specimen”. Call us crazy, but we decided it could be made even better: The basic 12AX7 preamp circuit remains unchanged, but we added an even greater tonal flexibility. The high control pulls for mid boost. The mid control pulls to adjust the mid boost frequency. The low control pulls to adjust the shift point between the low and mid controls. Additionally, a bright switch, an enhanced deep switch circuit, and two distinct EQ settings for the channel’s tone stack, give this amp one of the widest tone ranges available in four simple knobs.

The all-tube 12AX7 effects loop features a low impedance cathode follower output, which can feed most any tube or solid state effect device. Its send level is adjustable from pedal to rack level. The loop can also be bypassed via footswitch. The return sensitivity can be adjusted to accept both pedal or line level return signals, and provides a high 250-K input impedance.

The effects loop also provides the mixing for the wet and dry reverb signals in the amp. Both the send and return are active at all times, whether you patch through the loop or not. This allows the loop to be used as a line out, as well as a spare input to the power amp.

As a life-long admitted “reverb junky” Andy Fuchs grew up listening to the deep reverbs in amps like the blue diamond Ampeg Gemini and Blackface Fender amps. When he set out to design a reverb, it simply had to be better than the best. The original reverb in the Overdrive and Tripledrive Supreme amps was known as an outstanding reverb. Most players were unaware that the reverb was even solid state ! Featuring a servo-loop push-pull drive stage and a low noise Op-Amp return stage, it was both spacious and warm. The Clean Machine reverb builds upon this already stunning circuit, by adding an input dwell and tone control, as well as an output level and tone control. This allows the reverb to be adjusted from a mild and smooth cathedral reverb, to a deep and surfy reverb tone. Like all our other reverb equipped amps, it features an Accutronics 6 spring reverb pan, considered by many to be the best reverb pans made today. All our efforts on the preamp, loop and reverb would be wasted if we were to deliver it through anything less than a stellar power amp.

The Clean machine is available in three power levels: 75 ( 2 X 6550) , 100 (4 x 6L6) and 150 watts (4 X 6550). The 100 and 150-Watt models have a half power switch as well. The circuit is unique in a number of ways. We use a high current Hexfet regulator for both the screen voltage as well as to provide a regulated B+ to the driver tubes. This assures the amp stays together throughout its entire power output range. A 12AX7 predriver/phase inverter is followed by a DC coupled 6FQ7 cathode follower, which directly drives the power tube grids.

Designed more like an SVT style bass amp than a guitar amp, this results in a power amp that’s’ tight, articulate and well-defined. The output stage is followed by a custom wound output transformer with 4,8, and 16 ohm outputs. A separate bias control for each output stage half, and an AC balance control adjust the amp to audiophile levels of low distortion and linearity.

Like all Fuchs products, The Clean Machine is built on an aircraft grade T-6 aluminum chassis, is fan cooled, and built using the finest in premium parts throughout.

The Viper PDF Print

The Viper represents Fuchs Audio Technology’s continued evolution into amplifiers for the metal genre. Combining two great preamp designs with an all–tube hard-wire relay bypassed effects loop, and an exceptionally strong power amp, has produced a sonic force to be taken very seriously ! The Viper is a dual channel platform which features two distinctly different preamp voices for maximum tonal range.

The Viper Features

Channel one is a classic style mid driven American-voiced bluesy overdrive. While it has plenty of gain on tap, it also features a smooth warm and round overdrive tone. It can be run clean by lowering the input gain and raising the output master. High, Mid and Low controls offer a wide tonal range.

Channel two features a mid scooped traditional high gain metal voicing. An aggressive edge on the high end, an extended chunk on the low end, with amp gain to shred, hammer and scream, to your hearts delight. Both channels are pedal friendly and feature dedicated tubes for each channel (no shared tubes) to permit selecting tubes to enhance each channels tonal signature.

Low noise is assured through careful internal grounding, DC preamp tube filaments, as well as shielded audio cables and selected tubes throughout. The all-tube effects loop can be bypassed when not in use, and engaged via the rear panel loop switch. It also features high and low gain modes, for pedal or rack style effects use. The power amp features a high energy power supply with high speed switching diodes, a precision wound choke, and a large power supply reserve for tight controlled response up to full power. Like all Fuchs amps, it’s built on an aircraft grade aluminum T-6 aluminum chassis with fan cooling and stainless steel hardware throughout. A custom would output transformer has 4,8 and 16 ohm outputs, and is highly overrated and custom wound for Fuchs. The power stage features presence and thrust controls. Presence adjusts the high end response from smooth to edgy, while Thrust adjusts the level and tightness of the low end to get maximum bass from any speaker cabinet.

Units are CE and RoHs certified, available is 120 or 240 volt power configurations.
